All the President’s Wars

A curious facet of Woodward’s book and Luxenberg’s review is the amazing similarity between Barack Obama’s attitude toward a future terrorist attack or attacks and that expressed by Newsweek editor and CNN commentator, Fareed Zakaria. In a 2007 Newsweek article, Zakaria proposed a policy of “resilience” in the event of terrorist nuclear attacks.

Not All Sunsets Are Beautiful

Aloha to those tax cuts enacted by the Economic Growth and Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2001 (“EGTRRA”). If Congress does nothing, these tax cuts sunset at midnight on December 31, 2010. Anti-Business and Family laws in place before EGTRRA will kick back in. We will lose enhanced capital gains and dividends tax rates in the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003 (JGTRRA) as it also sunsets after December 31, 2010.

A Time To Grieve, A Time To Move Forward

On September 11, 2001, a strong wind ran through the streets of New York City, trees swayed, and forecasters urged people to bring light coats and jackets to work. O’Donnell Vs O’Donnell

The United States’ southern neighbor is “looking more more and more like Colombia looked 20 years ago, when the narco-traffickers controlled certain parts of the country,” she said, speaking from a Washington think-tank. End Of Poverty

You have heard it all before. You have heard the stories of starving children and African villages and abandonment and violence and crime and food banks and aid agencies. Somehow, for many people, it’s stopped being sexy and new. And, sadly, in this world, sexy and new is what sells. Of course, it’s all understandable. Can someone who was just fired from a job really care about impoverished people in a foreign country, thousands of miles away?

If Things Are Getting Better, Why Are We So Miserable?

You have heard by now that the recession is officially over. Do you feel like celebrating? Probably not.
